The project was based on a pre-existing construction that determined the setting out of the new building – a three-storey house (two above and one below ground), surrounded by copious vegetation. Built in separate eras, we now see a formal depuration that contrasts two volumes with two distinct images: one is the base of the villa, which is a more dynamic piece as it surrounds the transparente ground floor with removable slatted wood doors; the other, supported on the former, massive and enclosed in white, indicating a more intimate living experience on this floor.

The aim of the windows’ strategic distribution along the upper storey façades, shuttered by broad wide panels the same colour as the walls, is to reinforce the intended volumetric and material restraint, in obvious contrast to the versatility and rhythm provided by the vertical wooden elements. The intention behind this differentiation was to break the visual weight of the built mass, seeking a lighter, more harmonious whole, closely communicating with the surrounding space. To privilege contact with the outdoors, large porches were created along the four fronts of the ground floor that serve as outdoor seating areas and function as an extension of the house itself. Similarly, two gardened ramps were created that seamlessly link the garden and the lower floor, providing direct light into its rooms.

On the upper storey this relation was provided by the creation of a large terrace on the south elevation which overlooks the garden and the swimming pool. Although the different storeys harbour different functions – the support areas are in the sunken storey, the social areas on the ground floor and the private areas on the upper floor, the spaces are linked by the creation of a double ceiling height in the living room, bringing these two realities closer together.
